Terms & Conditions

Last updated: September 2026

These Terms & Conditions apply to tattoo services provided by Kate Challinor.

My aim is always to provide a safe, supportive and respectful experience. Because every client, scar, piece of skin and tattoo is different, good communication throughout the process is extremely important.

By making a booking, you agree to these Terms & Conditions. Nothing in these terms affects your statutory rights as a consumer.

Consultations, designs and pricing

Every tattoo is individually assessed and designed.

The anticipated price and amount of time required will be discussed with you before your appointment. Prices vary according to the individual piece, its size and complexity, the condition of the skin or scar and the anticipated time required.

Any price or time given before tattooing begins is an estimate unless specifically confirmed otherwise.

Scar tissue and individual skin can respond differently to tattooing, and it is not always possible to predict exactly how long a piece will take.

If less time is required than originally anticipated, I will reduce the price where appropriate.

If additional time or another session is reasonably required, this may result in an additional charge. Wherever possible, this will be discussed with you before further work is undertaken.

Deposits

A deposit may be required to secure your appointment.

Your deposit forms part of the price of your tattoo and will normally be deducted from the final amount payable.

Considerable work can take place before an appointment, including consultations, communication, research, planning and preparation of bespoke artwork.

If you need to cancel, please give as much notice as possible.

Where sufficient notice is provided, a deposit may be refundable. Where substantial preparatory work has already been undertaken, or cancellation occurs within two weeks of the appointment, some or all of the deposit may be retained where this reasonably reflects work already undertaken or loss arising from the cancellation.

Any amount retained will be considered fairly and in accordance with applicable consumer law.

Rescheduling appointments

I understand that circumstances change and sometimes appointments need to be moved.

Please provide as much notice as possible and, wherever possible, at least two weeks' notice.

Appointments may normally be rescheduled up to two times, subject to reasonable circumstances and agreement.

Further changes may require a new booking and/or deposit.

I appreciate communication. If something unexpected happens, please contact me as soon as you reasonably can.

Late cancellations and missed appointments

A minimum of 48 hours' notice is required for cancellations wherever reasonably possible.

Late cancellations and missed appointments can result in significant losses because substantial preparation may already have taken place and a specialist appointment of this length can be difficult to refill at short notice.

Where an appointment is cancelled with less than 48 hours' notice, or the client does not attend, the deposit may be retained and an additional cancellation charge may apply.

Any cancellation charge will be a reasonable reflection of the losses arising directly from the cancellation, taking into account factors such as work already undertaken, the length of the appointment reserved and whether the appointment can reasonably be offered to another client.

Where appropriate, this may amount to up to 50% of the agreed appointment price.

I will not seek to recover the same loss twice.

If I need to cancel

Occasionally illness, emergency or circumstances outside my reasonable control may mean that I need to postpone an appointment.

If this happens, I will contact you as soon as reasonably possible and offer to rearrange your appointment.

If I am unable to provide the agreed service and an appropriate alternative cannot be arranged, payments for services not provided will be refunded where required.

I cannot accept responsibility for reasonable consequential expenses such as travel or accommodation except where the law requires otherwise. For this reason, clients travelling significant distances may wish to consider flexible travel arrangements.

Arrival times

Your safety is more important to me than rushing to arrive.

If you are going to be late, please contact me as soon as possible.

Significant lateness may reduce the amount of tattooing that can safely be completed during the booked appointment and, where necessary, the work may need to be continued at a later appointment at additional cost.

Age requirement

Tattooing is strictly 18+.

Valid photographic identification may be requested.

Parental consent cannot be accepted as a substitute for the legal age requirement.

Medical and psychological suitability

Your health and safety come first.

You must provide accurate and complete information requested as part of the consultation and consent process and tell me about anything that could reasonably affect the safety or suitability of tattooing.

This may include relevant medical conditions, medication, allergies, infections, current treatment, recent surgery or other relevant circumstances.

You should inform me if your health or medication changes between your consultation and appointment.

Tattooing may need to be postponed or declined where there are safety concerns, including where you are unwell, have an infection, are taking antibiotics, the skin or scar is not ready to be tattooed, or there are other circumstances that make proceeding inappropriate.

Where appropriate, I may request confirmation or clearance from an appropriate healthcare professional before proceeding.

I may also postpone or decline a procedure where I have reasonable concerns about a client's ability at that time to understand the procedure, give informed consent or safely proceed with tattooing.

Failure to disclose relevant information

Clients are responsible for answering consultation and medical questions honestly and informing me of relevant changes before their appointment.

If information that should reasonably have been disclosed means that tattooing cannot safely proceed on the day, this may be treated in the same way as a late cancellation.

Any amount charged or retained will reflect the reasonable loss caused by the appointment being unable to proceed.

Scar suitability and maturity

There is no single timeframe in which every scar becomes suitable for tattooing.

Scar maturity, stability and suitability are assessed individually during the application and consultation process.

An appointment may be postponed if I believe the scar or surrounding skin requires additional healing time or tattooing would not be appropriate.

Designs and alterations

Your design will be developed through consultation and communication with you.

Reasonable adjustments are welcomed and I want you to be comfortable with the artwork that will become part of your body.

However, substantial changes to an agreed concept may require additional design time or may mean that the appointment needs to be rescheduled.

Where a significant change creates additional work or results in a cancelled/rescheduled appointment, any additional costs will be discussed with you.

Scar tissue, healing and results

Tattooing is performed on living tissue and no particular healed result can be guaranteed.

This is particularly important with scar tissue, which may accept and retain pigment differently from unaffected skin.

Healing, pigment retention and the number of sessions required vary between individuals.

An initial estimate of the number or length of sessions is therefore not a guarantee that the tattoo will be completed within that exact timeframe.

Additional sessions may sometimes be required and may incur an additional charge.

Touch-ups

Where a reasonable touch-up is required as part of the normal healing process, this may be provided without additional charge where agreed following assessment.

Free touch-ups do not normally cover changes or additions to the original design, damage caused by inappropriate aftercare, excessive sun exposure, significant changes to the skin, normal ageing or fading occurring substantially later.

Where additional work is required for those reasons, an additional appointment and charge may apply.

Preparing for your appointment

Please follow any preparation and aftercare information provided to you.

You should not consume alcohol during the 24 hours before your appointment.

Clients who regularly consume significant amounts of alcohol may be advised to reduce their intake appropriately in advance of tattooing where safe to do so.

Please do not stop prescribed medication or make significant changes to medication or alcohol use solely for a tattoo appointment without appropriate medical advice.

If you are unwell or unsure whether you are fit for your appointment, please contact me beforehand.

Behaviour and the studio environment

Everyone deserves to feel safe and respected.

I will treat clients with dignity, compassion and respect, and I expect the same in return.

Abusive, threatening, discriminatory, sexually inappropriate or otherwise unsafe behaviour will not be tolerated. An appointment may be stopped or refused where reasonably necessary to protect the safety and wellbeing of those present.

CCTV operates at the premises for security and safety purposes.

Children are not permitted in the tattooing environment.

Assistance dogs are welcome where this has been discussed in advance so that appropriate arrangements can be made while maintaining hygiene and safety requirements.

Gifted and complimentary appointments

Unless specifically agreed otherwise, these Terms & Conditions also apply to gifted, charitable and complimentary tattoo appointments.

Because these appointments are offered without charge and appointment availability is limited, a complimentary appointment that is cancelled by the recipient may not be capable of being rescheduled.

Exceptional circumstances can always be discussed.

Appointments at other locations

Where we specifically agree that tattooing will take place at another appropriately licensed or suitable studio, clinic or premises, these Terms & Conditions will continue to apply unless different arrangements are agreed with you in writing.

Your statutory cancellation rights

Where a booking is made online, by telephone or otherwise at a distance, you may have a statutory right to cancel the service contract within 14 days of entering into it.

Where you specifically ask me to begin providing services during that cancellation period — for example, where you request consultation, design or other preparatory work to begin immediately — different rules may apply and you may be required to pay a proportionate amount for services already supplied if you subsequently exercise a statutory cancellation right.

Nothing in these Terms & Conditions is intended to restrict any cancellation or refund rights you have under applicable consumer law.

Concerns or complaints

If you have a concern about your appointment, tattoo or experience, please contact me as soon as possible.

I would always prefer the opportunity to discuss a concern directly and try to find an appropriate resolution.

Changes to these Terms & Conditions

These Terms & Conditions may occasionally be updated to reflect changes to my services, policies or applicable requirements.

The version applicable to a booking will normally be the terms provided or made available when the booking was made, subject to any changes subsequently agreed with you.
